Washer not spinning: redistribute a drained load

Rebalance a drained front-load washer safely. Standing water, lock faults and repeated heavy banging need a different next step.

Illustrated version: Front-load washer with an unbalanced load that has drained. This is load redistribution, not pump-filter or motor repair. Check applicability ↓

Before you follow the illustration: Read the safety and stop conditions. Match the exact appliance design and use its model-specific instructions.

Representative educational illustration with working and waiting time compressed. Read the exact model scope, safety checks and complete written procedure before starting.

01 / MATCH YOUR MODEL

Confirm this applies to your appliance.

  • Front-load washer with an unbalanced load that has drained. This is load redistribution, not pump-filter or motor repair.

Representative educational geometry, not manufacturer CAD or certification. Controls, access points and parts vary. Your exact model manual takes priority.

02 / SAFETY FIRST

Read this before starting.

  • Door opens only after unlocked and drum stopped.
  • Standing water redirects to separate draining procedure.
  • Do not show leaning on a spinning machine, defeating locks, or internal motor work.

03 / CHECK THE SYMPTOM

Choose the right next step.

  • Check whether the machine has drained. Water high in the drum can prevent spinning and may spill if the door opens.
  • A single heavy bundle or an overloaded drum may prevent balancing; this guide does not cover motor or door-lock repairs.

04 / PREPARATION

Have the right items ready.

  • Your model manual and clothing care labels
  • Space to remove excess items from the load
Before you begin

These checks are for your use only. They are not saved and do not certify compatibility.

05 / THE PROCEDURE

Work through the checks.

  1. Pause and wait. If your front-load washer will not reach spin speed, press Pause. Wait for the drum to stop and the door to unlock naturally, but keep the door closed.
  2. Check for trapped water. If water remains high in the drum, stop here and use the draining guide. A drainage fault can prevent spinning, and opening the door may release water.
  3. Untangle the load. For a drained drum, open the door and separate tangled clothes. Spread the items loosely around the drum instead of leaving one heavy bundle on one side.
  4. Adjust the load size. Remove items from an overloaded drum. Avoid washing a single bulky item unless the manual allows it. Follow your machine's load guidance and the clothing care labels.
  5. Select the right spin. Close the door securely. Choose the model's spin-only or drain-and-spin option, with a spin speed suitable for the fabrics, and start the cycle according to the manual.
  6. Watch the result. Allow the washer to balance the load before accelerating. If it repeatedly stops, bangs heavily, or shows an error, stop and arrange service. Do not bypass the door lock.

06 / VERIFY THE RESULT

Test safely and watch the result.

  • Allow the washer’s balancing movements before it accelerates. Use the cycle and speed specified for the fabrics.
  • Stop if the machine repeatedly fails to spin, bangs heavily or displays an unresolved error.
