Representative educational illustration with working and waiting time compressed. Read the exact model scope, safety checks and complete written procedure before starting.

01 / MATCH YOUR MODEL

Confirm this applies to your appliance.

  • LG-style front-load washer only when its manual permits user cleaning through a lower pump-filter access door and provides a small emergency drain hose.

Representative educational geometry, not manufacturer CAD or certification. Controls, access points and parts vary. Your exact model manual takes priority.

02 / SAFETY FIRST

Read this before starting.

  • Full drum may contain far more water than one shallow pan holds.
  • Hot water must cool first; never unscrew large filter before complete emergency draining.
  • If no emergency hose, inaccessible plug, stuck cap, no hose flow, or conflicting manual: stop and seek model-specific service.
  • This does not apply universally to top-load or sealed-filter washers.

03 / CHECK THE SYMPTOM

Choose the right next step.

  • Confirm both the lower user-service access door and small emergency drain hose. Do not apply this procedure to a different design.
  • A full drum may hold much more water than a shallow pan. Recap the hose before each container change.

04 / PREPARATION

Have the right items ready.

  • Your exact model manual, confirming this user-maintenance procedure
  • Dry towels, a shallow container, a soft brush and a way to empty the container repeatedly
  • A safely accessible plug that can be unplugged with dry hands

05 / THE PROCEDURE

Work through the checks.

  1. Power off and cool. Use this method only if your manual shows an accessible pump filter and emergency drain hose. Switch off, unplug with dry hands, and let any hot wash water cool.
  2. Prepare for water. Place towels and a shallow container below the access door. Open it and gently unclip the small drain hose. Do not pull the hose out forcefully.
  3. Drain before opening. Hold the hose over the container and remove its cap. Drain completely, recapping between container changes. If water will not drain, stop; do not unscrew the large filter cap.
  4. Remove and clean. Only after draining, turn the pump filter counterclockwise and withdraw it. Rinse away lint and debris, using a soft brush. Keep fingers away from hidden pump parts.
  5. Reseal both openings. Reinstall the filter securely as the manual directs. Firmly replace the small hose cap, clip the hose back into position, and close the access door.
  6. Test for leaks. Dry the area, restore power, and run the manual's drain test. Watch for leaks. Stop for leakage or continued drainage failure, and arrange service rather than removing more parts.

06 / VERIFY THE RESULT

Test safely and watch the result.

  • Dry the surrounding area, restore power and use the manual’s drain test.
  • Check for leaks at the resealed openings. Stop if leaking or failure continues; do not remove further parts.
