01 / MATCH YOUR MODEL
Confirm this applies to your appliance.
- Conventional vented electric dryer that heats but dries slowly, with a removable washable lint screen. Focus is detergent/softener residue cleaning; excludes heat-pump/condenser dryers, gas work, vent disassembly, and internal lint removal.

02 / SAFETY FIRST
Read this before starting.
- Blocked-vent and warning branches never continue to a heated test.
- Use safely handled hot tap water; no boiling water or scalding illustration.
- Lint is removed dry before residue washing; screen is completely dry before reinstalling.
- No duct disconnect, dryer movement, electrical cabinet opening, or chemical mixing.
03 / CHECK THE SYMPTOM
Choose the right next step.
- This guide addresses a dryer that heats but dries slowly, with a user-removable washable screen.
- Burning smells, overheating, vent warnings, crushed ducting or blocked outlets are stop conditions. Do not proceed to a heated test.
04 / PREPARATION
Have the right items ready.
- Your manual confirming that the removable lint screen can be washed
- A nylon brush, liquid detergent, safely handled hot tap water and a clean dry towel
These checks are for your use only. They are not saved and do not certify compatibility.
05 / THE PROCEDURE
Work through the checks.
- Stop and cool the dryer. Stop the dryer and let it cool. This guide is for a vented dryer that heats but dries slowly. Burning smells, overheating, or a vent warning mean stop and get help.
- Remove lint first. Pull out the removable lint screen and roll loose lint off with your fingers. Do this before washing; water makes loose lint harder to remove from the mesh.
- Wash residue from the mesh. If your manual permits washing, wet the screen with hot water. Use a nylon brush with liquid detergent to scrub both sides and remove fabric-softener or detergent residue.
- Rinse and dry fully. Rinse thoroughly, then dry the screen completely with a clean towel. Inspect it for damage. Do not reinstall a wet screen or run the dryer with torn or missing mesh.
- Reseat and check airflow. Push the dry screen fully into place. Check visible ducting and the outdoor outlet without moving the dryer. A crushed duct or blockage means stop and arrange vent cleaning.
- Test an appropriate load. Only with clear venting, dry a loosely loaded batch on the fabric-appropriate cycle. If drying remains slow, arrange inspection of the full exhaust system rather than running extra cycles.
06 / VERIFY THE RESULT
Test safely and watch the result.
- Reinstall the screen only when completely dry, undamaged and fully seated. Test a loose load only when venting is unobstructed.
- Persistent slow drying needs inspection of the full exhaust path. Repeated extra cycles are not a substitute for correcting the cause.
