Match your repair
Side-to-side correction on a sound cabinet door with matching Blum CLIP top BLUMOTION concealed hinges. This guide uses the front overlay adjustment screw only; it does not remove hinges or adjust mounting-plate height/depth.
Safety and stop conditions
- Support the door; keep fingers clear of hinge and adjacent fronts.
- Do not remove cup, arm or mounting screws; no powered driver or forcing an adjustment stop.
- Stripped screws, cracked hinges and damaged cabinet material are outside scope.
Tools and materials
- Matching Blum hinge instructions
- Correctly fitting hand screwdriver
- Small ruler or gap reference; support for the door
Before you start
- An uneven side gap is the target symptom. A door that is uniformly too high or projects too far forward needs a different adjustment axis.
- Verify sound mounting fixings before changing alignment.
Repair steps
Match the hinge
Open the cabinet and match the hinge to the Blum CLIP top BLUMOTION design shown. This repair uses the front side-adjustment screw. Other hinges may use different screws or mechanisms.
Check the fixings
Support the door and check that the mounting fixings are snug. If a screw spins, the hinge is cracked, or the cabinet is damaged, stop; alignment screws cannot repair failed fixings.
Read the uneven gap
Close the door and compare its gaps with the cabinet and neighboring front. Note which end needs moving sideways. Then reopen it, keeping fingers clear of the hinge mechanism.
Adjust the upper hinge
Turn the front adjustment screw on the upper hinge a little, then close the door and recheck. If the gap gets worse, reverse that small change. Never remove the screw.
Balance the lower hinge
Adjust the lower hinge the same way until the side gaps are even. Stay within the hinge’s adjustment range. If you run out of travel, stop rather than forcing it.
Check the full swing
Open and close the door several times. It should clear adjacent fronts and close without rubbing. Height or depth problems need the matching adjustment procedure, not extra turns of this screw.
Check the result
- Check side gaps with the door shut and swing clearance with it open.
- The door must close freely without contacting the neighboring front or cabinet.
Common questions
Which screw do I turn?
On the pictured Blum CLIP top BLUMOTION hinge, the front screw on the arm controls side-to-side overlay. The rear cam and mounting plate perform different adjustments.
Will this repair a hinge pulling out of the cabinet?
No. Stop for stripped fixings or damaged material. Secure attachment must be restored before alignment.
Do all concealed hinges adjust in the same direction?
No. Match your hinge instructions. Make a small change and check the result rather than assuming a universal turning direction.
